Newcastle have been favourites for Lingard’s signature up until now but the Magpies have been unable to agree terms to secure the player’s services.
The Red Devils are keen for Lingard’s salary to be paid in fall, while they have demanded a £2.5m loan fee, with a £12m bonus if Newcastle manage to avoid relegation.
It has been reported that Lingard arrived at Carrington this morning with the intention of forcing through a move to Newcastle but the emergence of West Ham back onto the scene could change the situation.
With two teams seemingly competing for the 28-year-old, there is now a possibility that United’s demands will be met ahead of the transfer deadline tonight.
