The Tunisia international joined United for an initial fee of around £5m in 2019 when he was just 16 but Monaco stand to make an eye-watering £10m from the midfielder.
Nevertheless, United will feel that it was money well spent given Mejbri has already made 11 appearances for Tunisia, having rejected the chance to play for France.
The 19-year-old impressed for his country during the Arab Cup last month and he’s set to return to Manchester this week after Tunisia’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations, where he made two starts.
Ralf Rangnick had hoped to strengthen his squad this month, with the German feeling that United are particularly lacking in central midfield.
However, after allowing the likes of Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Amad Diallo to leave the club, United failed to recruit a midfielder.
The Manchester Evening News say this is good news for Mejbri, who will now be given the chance to feature for the first team.
Rangnick had already planned to promote the midfielder into first team training but he now stands a real chance of playing in the remainder of the season.
United returned to the top four with a win against West Ham before the winter break and Paul Pogba should be available when the side return, boosting Rangnick’s options in midfield.
But, having reportedly rejected the chance to take a holiday after AFCON in order to return to training early, Mejbri will hope to take on a more significant role as United look to secure a Champions League spot.
