Christensen, who has been on the books of Chelsea since 2012, could be set for a parting of ways at the end of the season. The centre-back is in the final few months of his contract with the current European and World champions and could end up leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
Barça have been on his trails for a while and recent reports had even indicated that an agreement over a pre-contract could be on the horizon.
However, as per a report from Abendzeitung (h/t Calciomercato), Bayern Munich have also thrown their hat in the rings to sign the Denmark international.
The Bavarian giants are in the market to replace Niklas Sule, who will be joining Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer at the end of the season. While the German champions have been linked with Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger in the past, it seems like they have Christensen in their sights as well.
The report goes on to state that Bayern Munich are ready to hand the Chelsea ace a massive contract worth €11 million per season. Such an offer could blow Barcelona away as they would not be able to match such high sums in the current financial situation.
The Blaugrana need defensive reinforcements in the summer with Gerard Pique in the final stage of his career, whereas both Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet are staring at uncertain futures. With Eric Garcia also struggling, it makes sense for the club to add at least one quality centre-back.
But Bayern’s emergence in the pursuit of Christensen could complicate matters for Xavi Hernandez & co.
