Fans and lovers of Manchester United rejoiced over the club's away goal recorded in the 1-1 draw game against Atletico Madrid of Spain in the UEFA Champions league's game on Wednesday night in Madrid.

However, the 1-1 draw result should not be something to rejoice about as UEFA governing body has released new rules on away goals.

According to UEFA Champions league's new rules governing the competition, away goals rule which has been in force since 1965 will no longer apply to determine the winner of a two-legged knockout tie in cases where the two teams had scored the same number of goals on aggregate over the two legs.

What this translates to is that if , as in the case of Manchester United, the second leg tie ends in a goalless draw, it will not be an advantage for The Red Devils as the away rules will no longer apply.

Away goals will no longer carry more value than the one scored at home as games deadlocked on goals will now be settled through extra times and penalty shootouts.

It now behoves on Manchester United and other clubs participating in UEFA competitions not to see their away goals as an advantage.
