Chelsea might be interested in signing Marc Guehi, who has performed well since joining Crystal Palace in the summer.
Guehi's signing to Crystal Palace apparently includes a provision that may see the England defender return to Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
At the conclusion of last season, Guehi elected to leave the Blues and join Patrick Vieira's project at Selhurst Park. Gareth Southgate included him in his current England team for friendly matches against Switzerland and Ivory Coast because of his impressive achievements in the 2021-22 season.
During the course of this season, the 21-year-old has appeared in 28 Premier League games, missing only the 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Boxing Day, and has scored twice. Wembley on Saturday saw the Three Lions defeat Switzerland 2-1 thanks to his whole 90 minutes of action.
Crystal Palace have had three players called up in what is turning out to be an exciting season for the Eagles: left-back Tyrick Mitchell and Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher. Stamford Bridge fans are also looking forward to seeing how Gallagher develops in the future.
Tuchel is said to be considering a first-team spot for Gallagher, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season.
Guehi lauded Gallagher's contribution to the squad earlier this season, saying: "He's an excellent player with Premier League experience under his belt from his time at West Brom. That goalscoring form he's now exhibiting and duplicating is a huge boost to the team's morale and enthusiasm. For the rest of the season, I'm certain he'll keep it up.
It's possible that the "amazing" combination may return to Stamford Bridge in the future. Despite the fact that Gallagher is anticipated to be part of the Chelsea team next season, Guehi may return sooner than planned.
According to Tom Barclay, a writer with GiveMeSport, this may happen: "There doesn't seem to be a buyback provision in the contract. Next summer, if another team bids and it is approved, they have the ability to match that offer and have it accepted. My understanding is that this provision kicks in.
Even if his time at Chelsea hasn't come to an end, it's unlikely that they'll be able to re-sign him for less than Tino Livramento received for £38 million.
